It contains the Presidential Palace, the iconic St Mark’s Church, the Croatian parliament and various museums and galleries which are all set in cobbled streets lit by gas lamps. Jewish Tour of Zagreb 

The Jewish community in Croatia numbers around 2500 members. They live in 10 distinctive Jewish townships.

The largest community is in the capital of Zagreb. Their headquarters are in Palmoticeva 16. At the same address you will find a synagogue, an art gallery, a Holocaust research and documentation center and  the largest Jewish library in the Balkans, named after rabbi Lavoslav Sik. Also a kindergarten named Miriam Weiller.

Another community, called Bet Israel, is based on Mazuranicev Trg 6. It also has its own synagogue and library. It is a founder of the “Lauder Hugo Kon” primary school in the Upper Town Zagreb.

The Lower Town, built 19th century, Habsburg era styles buildings, streets and parks with its shops, restaurants, cafes, theatres and many residential goverment palaces we visit by car. Slow drive along lovely streets of Zagreb Downtown enables you to admire beautifull parks, Croatian National Theatre, University Library, Universites of Zagreb and everything that you always wanted to see in Zagreb. After Downtown we take you to the residential and embassy area on the hill above the town- Pantovčak. From Pantovčak hill down and up again to Mirogoj Cemetery, one of the most beautifull cemeteries in Europe. Graves of Catholic, Orthodox,Jewish,Islam faith,communist and atheist, together side by side in beautiful setting of Herman Bolle’s arcades.
By far, highlight of Zagreb.It is beautiful in every season.

Afterwards we carry on our drive to New Zagreb and the modern post-World War II area of, which lies on the southern bank of Sava River – which is full of high-rise buildings and green areas, recreational lake Bundek and  Lake Jarun, Zagreb Fair, Museum of Contemporary Art – MSU.

Review

We had only 3 hours to see Zagreb and so realized that we would not be able to do it well on our own as the time was so limited. Inga showed us the most interesting places and we felt that in those several hours we got a good grip on Zagreb's history, culture and architecture. We would not have been able to do it without her. I'd like to add that by the very end of the tour (basically when the tour itself was already over) my granddaughter started to have a pretty strong allergic reaction to pollen in the air. Inga personally took us to the closest drug store and was there with us until she made sure we got the right medication. After that she suggested for us to have a cup of coffee and relax in the nearby cafe, Aida, where the pastries turned out to be the absolutely best pastries we ever had. All in all, Zagreb would've been a much bleaker experience without Inga!
